The mask allows us to become both anonymous by hiding our identity and perhaps allowing us to become more ourselves, overcoming taboos, breaking down the societally instilled masks we wear everyday. The masquerade also aids in finding parallels between the performance and that which we may imagine to be the rituals or initiations to some kind of cult or secret society, the sounds of Tibetan Monks Chanting turn the artist into mystic and the art into alchemy. Culminating with the ape in awe of its own collective historic invention.
